How am I doing?
Today I met up with Clarissa, Matt, Nick, and Brendan, to interview Mr. Jordan, a science teacher at El Camino High School. I had some equipment malfunctions, but I was able to still get the main footage needed. I did not have my tripod with me, so I had to improvise with a pile of books and binders, which worked out perfectly fine. The handheld camera I used for zoomed shots and free viewing ran out of batteries, so I was unable to get some close-ups during the interview. Instead, I settled for doing a few close-ups after the interview. I hope those shots turned out right.
The big Relay for Life event is this Saturday. I hope to film throughout the 24-hour period and gain some additional footage for the site.

How am I doing?
I met up with Matt and Clarissa to do an interview on the phone. We met with Dina Dewes, who was about to finish up with her last sessions of chemotherapy. I had to form a new set-up and work with what I had, since it was a phone interview and could not physically film her in person. I set-up my laptop as a microphone and recorded the conversation as we used Clarissa’s phone to talk to her. As a precaution, I also used my digital camera to record the conversation. The conversation through the phone went well and I did not mind it had to be through a phone.

How am I doing?
I met up with Matt, Clarissa, and Nick. We reviewed the layout of the sight and discussed our next actions. We hope to interview a few more survivors. We had to cancel on one interview due to some scheduling issues, so we need to find more people to interview. We still have about a week left before the event. We have a few people in mind, but we are not sure if they can do the interview. We also discussed the plan to sell shirts at the Relay event to help raise funds. I still need to raise my $100 to stay overnight at the event and prove I want to help the cause.

How Am I doing?
I attended the Relay for Life meeting at Grace Covenant Church in South San Francisco. I was able to meet up with the Spark Hope team and the other coordinators of the event. The main issue discussed was whether Relay would be moved to the summer due to one of the coordinator leaders stepping down. The consensus was that Relay should stay in May, but things need to be stepped up faster to get the event solid and going. I’m looking forward to participating in the event.

How Am I doing?
After editing, I had to begin rendering the file into a usable footage. I changed my settings so that it would keep the highest HD quality, yet not take up too much space on the computer for a small file. It took a few times to render the file to get it the approximate size I wanted. I did not want a big file more than 6g, even though my computer was capable of rendering a file that large, but I wanted the file at least smaller than 4g. With a 4g file, it would take less time to upload online, but still keep its HD quality. The task became frustrating, but I eventually got the correct settings to get the quality I wanted. Once the settings were just right, I created a channel for Spark Hope and uploaded it to Youtube.

How Am I doing?
I finished the second half of the texts. It was much easier as I finally found got use to shortcuts and getting things done faster. Though, the audio became slightly faster and it seemed the words were closer together, giving me slight problems with timing the text. I tried a new technique of making the words form an image. I placed words over an image and outline its form, trying to resize the words to fit the image. It turned out nicely after I faded the image of the logo and the words in the shape of a phoenix. I was not sure if it would work, but it was worth putting the time into. Overall, the editing went fine and I was satisfied with the content.

How am I doing?
Once again, I met up with my mentor at his office. I was able to go into one of their filming rooms and help set-up for a shoot towards the afternoon. There was a backdrop and chairs, but the important thing was lighting and the camera. We took out two large lights, that didn’t emit much heat, plus another power light to add depth to the shot. He brought out books and told me to sit on them to show how shots are balanced when one person is shorter than other. He showed me all the different cameras and tripod equipment they had. We set-up the camera and placed the appropriate memory cards, filters, and settings. I learned about editing, camera, and lighting techniques.
